The Artist

Stella Flocks, a native of Detroit, Michigan, always loved art. While she was studying nursing at Wayne State University, she also took drawing classes. Her drawing teacher, however, told her that she better stick with nursing. So Stella followed his advice and became a nurse. She later moved to San Diego, California with her husband and two children and quickly became actively involved in her community. She chaired the La Jolla Antique Show, was active in the PTA for many years, and is currently on the board of La Jolla High School Scholarship Foundation. After her kids moved out of the house, Stella finally had the time to rediscover her love of art. She still, however, followed her professor’s advice and didn’t become a painter. Instead she used her creative talents to design home accent pieces like topiaries, silk and dried flower arrangements, and other crafts. At age 54, Stella realized her dream of being an artist by starting her own business selling her artwork. Thus, Zofia Home & Garden was born, named in honor of Stella’s mother, who always dreamed of owning her own business. Zofia Home & Garden designs are available at the La Jolla Farmer’s Market, many California craft shows, and also on-line at the Zofia Home & Garden website, http://zofiadesign.com.
